Release Party Official and Big Storms Are Coming…

It’s official, we are having a release party for the Inaugural Issue of Adventure Monkey – the magazine on March 20, 2010!  I was hoping to have it at the new High Gear, but the renovation process is still in process even with Matt and Stephanie putting in some serious hours getting it done. Good thing they are so young and vivacious. I’m hoping it slows Matt down a bit on the Dirty Kanza, but it won’t because he’s incapable of “slow.” I’m pretty sure I will be at the end of the pack anyway. I am just hoping to finish the DK this year. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about my chances. Oh man I am way off track again. Here’s the party details:

Adventure Monkey Magazine Release Party

When: March 20, 2010
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Where: upstairs at Natasha’s Bar and Grill in Emporia; 7th Street and Commercial in Emporia (Google maps put me in front of the carpet store which is down the street from Natasha’s, close but wrong)
What: A big shiny poster size cover of Adventure Monkey – the magazine will be revealed for all to see. Magazines and stickers will be available and maybe Bobby will sign your copy since his beautiful mug is on the amazing front cover. I will say a few words and the bar will be open too. Oh yeah, FREE FOOD! After 9:00 we will see where the wind blows us.
Who: All readers, fans and contributors of the Adventure Monkey will come from near and far, so YOU are invited.

So there is your invite. I hope you weren’t expecting anything more formal than that. Please come and show your support and enthusiasm for the new Adventure Monkey magazine being launched in a small town in Kansas called Emporia. I hope to ride into the Flint Hills the morning after depending on the weather. So feel free to come along. If you want to come from out of town and need a place to crash, I have plenty of floor space at my house, just bring your indoor camping gear. If you have a camera and like to take pictures, please come with your camera. I will be busy, but I want pictures of the evening. I wish I could hire the Parsons  for a totally rock n roll party, but remember the shoestring budget? Any pictures you get to me may make it into the blog and maybe even the next issue of Adventure Monkey – the magazine! It will be fun, you don’t want to miss out on this one!

After the party, the magazine will be available to purchase from magcloud.com and available as a free download from this site. It is a magnificent feast for your eyes. Counting the front and back covers, it is a 44 page magazine, not too bad for a thrown together piece! The subject of issue one is, of course, Kansas Cycling. I can’t thank the contributors enough. They really came through for me on this one with stories and pictures. Now it’s time to think about issue number two. If you have ideas, please let me know. I am pretty good at making ideas come to life in photo and print. That’s what I do.

Speaking of Kansas Weather…

The Dirty Kanza in on June 5th this year. Here are a few images I took after a small storm came through the Coffey County area last June. A mile wide swath of poles was destroyed. I am hoping for good weather for the Dirty Kanza this year, and hopefully I won’t into winds this high while I pedal into the middle of the middle of nowhere, but if it happens I am more than sure that the Fargo will make it through far better than those fancy lightweight cyclocross bikes that always seem to win. I will throw you a packet of energy gel as I ride past you on my intact Fargo.

Come to the party!

Darren Alff - I can’t believe you got this Adventure monkey magazine done so quickly. From my end it has all happened super fast! Congrats… and keep up the good work. I can’t wait to see the first edition.

It did happen quick! Everyone I contacted about stories came through quickly and I edited and designed it as quick as I could – one of those meant to happen things I think!

Matt S. - Eric, sadly I won’t be able to make it to your party because I’ll be working, but I wish you the best, and can’t wait to see it!

Milage depends on the people that come along. It could be 30 miles or 75 if people are up for that – playing that by ear. AND if you’ve been keeping up, I am not fast and will want to shoot pictures, so it will be pretty relaxed. If we go far, I will put a small town in the middle to stop and refuel. Excited to hear you may be coming!

Dennis & Barbara Petty - Wow, a bike rider and a camera. I love to ride fast and barb is always lagging behind to take pictures. We ride recumbents and need to get into shape to ride very far but I am going to try to come to your open house. I will definately take your Magazine. and invite you over to my blog to see Barb’s pictures of Kansas. We are in the Topeka area.

cool – I take it the snow kept you away, that’s OK. One of these days, I am sure we will pass on the road!
