Storage

Hello everyone! I am doing nothing but working at the plant lately. We are refueling the reactor. It is a planned 35 day outage. Kansas has to use other types of power plants and/or purchase power to make up for the loss of electricity production from our plant. What is my part in this? Well, I am helping the Chemistry group and taking pictures of all the big jobs going on for our newsletter and for documentation. I am working 12 hour days during this time. I do get my weekend off, so a nice ride will commence.

I haven’t had a lot of time to ride or take pictures (beside industrial shots of the plant) but I wanted to share a great deal that I saw the other day. If you use your computer for photography, music, or video (why else would you have a computer? – maybe to read my blog;)) You need extra storage. A word of advice – do NOT use your computer’s hard drive (HD) for anything except for the system and applications. Save everything else (images, music, video, documents, etc) on another HD, either internal or external. Your computer uses the unused HD space to run things, so if you fill it up, your computer will begin to run sluggish and/or other bad things may happen. After you save your info to a HD, back it up. Every HD will fail at some point. If you are backed up no problem. If your are not backed up, you lose all those precious files. HD space is cheap now, so get two. One for your files and one for a backup.

Sound expensive? It’s not. I received an email about a 500GB external HD for $39.95 (after rebate). It is a 500 GB Fantom Drive GreenDrive. I have used a Fantom 250GB for years without a problem. It connects using FAST eSATA connections or the slower USB2.0. I think I may get one of these. If you use the link below you will support this site and be taken to Mac Mall’s “Deal of the Day.” It was the Deal of the Day on October 14. You should be able to search for it if it has disappeared (item number GD500EU) as the Deal of the Day. It will work on a PC too, if you are an unfortunate PC user. More on Mac vs PC later, but since 1994, I haven’t been bothered by a virus, spyware or major computer problem on any of my Macs. More expensive? Not if you use your computer to make money and need it to work without problems and fast. Take care and be happy! Here’s the link:

Thanks everyone for all the support and for reading and enjoying my site. It means a lot to me. I hope to have time to do some blog purusing myself so that I can add some cool links to my links page.
