The worst bike ride ever

A lot has happened lately. The adventure of life never stops, especially with kids at home. Sometimes this is joyful, sometimes a challenge. As you know, I want to ride the transamerica trail with my son when he graduates high school in 2012. When hard times hit sometimes it seems as if that will never happen.

Well, it has been a challenge with Alex as of late. He is becoming a man, testing boundaries and trying to find himself. It was a diificult time for me too, if my memory serves me correctly. We have had to make some new rules, draw up a contract and make some changes in the house. We will make it through this. Sometimes it seems too hard, but I do believe being a father is my most important job, so the blog sat for a few days.

So last Friday, I was planning on taking a nice long Friday ride, until Alex got in big trouble and I had to force him to come with me on a bike ride. I want him to enjoy the ride, but I had no other choice. The ride ended up being miserably slow, since I had to keep my eye on him. He’s not in cycling shape, so I can shred him. I rode up a ways ahead, knowing I should record this miserable moment.

Al on bikeI didn’t take too many more pictures, since I was in a bad mood. I didn’t get to ride as hard as I wanted to and more than anything else I was dissapointed by my son. I wasn’t in the relaxed, open minded, artsy mood since I was kinda mad and I felt bad for making Alex ride. Things are better today only because of communication and Jen and I not giving up on him, ever. Here’s a few shots:

Ok, stay tuned because I took the most amazing 58 mile bike ride last Sunday. I saw an abandoned missle silo from the cold war and I road a ways on the rails to trails trail near Bushong. I have some great pictures and a great story to share. Thanks for reading!

Jenni in KS - Keep at it, Dad. Parenting isn’t always fun or easy, but it is the most important job we have, and the payoffs are big.

I’m really looking forward to seeing your next post. My husband keeps telling me there are supposed to be abandoned missile silos near us–out by the tiny, unincorporated town of Rock. I’d drive around looking for them, but I don’t know what to look for, so I’m hoping you got some pictures.

Errin - Hang in there Eric. I was a teen once too, and I butted heads with my Pops. I’m sure most of us did. We all grow out of it. My Pops is my best friend now, but it wasn’t always easy. Things will come around.

That TAT trip sounds great. I wish my Pops and I would’ve done something like that.
