What to Do When You’re in Tacoma

Seattle has long been a popular vacation spot for tourists. However, the city of Tacoma, the other city in the area, is another destination well worth exploring. Located less than an hour’s drive from Seattle, this urban port city has much to offer. If you are traveling to Seattle, a visit to Tacoma will be well worth the time and effort.

Museum of Glass

Be sure to visit the memorable Museum of Glass if you get a chance. You might view live glassmaking in action, as well as the current exhibitions and permanent collections. The glass sculptures at this museum range from thought-provoking to breathtaking. Another sight worth making the effort to see is the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, a bridge not far from the museum that is lavishly decorated with the works of the renowned artist, Dale Chihuly.

Pacific Bonsai Museum

This open-air museum is free to the public. The Pacific Bonsai Museum displays incredible bonsai trees from around the world. Many of these trees have been featured in magazines and books. They are all painstakingly nurtured by the skilled hands of bonsai artists.

Jozee Rooz Indoor Petting Zoo

If you are traveling with little ones, this petting zoo is a must-see. It’s the perfect place to go at any time of year, but it is especially convenient when the weather is cold and dreary. On the weekends, kids can indulge in pony rides. Whether you are an adult or a kid, you may delight in the sight of exotic animals, farm animals, and miniature pets.

Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium

This is another ideal spot for animal lovers visiting Tacoma. You can observe some amazing animals, such as arctic foxes, polar bears, and camels. The aquariums are not to be missed, and they feature exhibits with sharks, jellyfish, sea stars, and stingrays.

Tours of Puget Sound

You should also take advantage of the chance to tour Puget Sound by boat. You can take a guided tour or go by private charter. You will enjoy some unforgettable views of the area, and the fresh sea air is always invigorating.

Cheney Stadium

If you feel like catching a game when you’re in town, head over to Cheney Stadium to watch the Rainiers in action. This venue has a steep grandstand seating design that ensures an excellent view no matter where you sit. The stadium was extensively renovated several years ago.

Five Mile Drive & Trails

Don’t forget to take a scenic tour by car or on foot before you return home. Five Mile Drive & Trails will enable you to do both of these things. This local attraction will provide you with more photo opportunities than you might believe. From gorgeous flower gardens to walks along the beach, the area may leave you feeling as though you never want to go home.

Tacoma is a vibrant, friendly, beautiful city. This destination is less crowded than Seattle, and it has much to offer in terms of scenic attractions and fun things to do. After one visit, you could find yourself canceling your next trip to Seattle in favor of staying in Tacoma instead.
