7 Things to Remember When Packing for a Holiday Abroad

We all get excited in the days and weeks before going on holiday abroad; just the thought of the sun and sea is enough for us! However, there’s a lot of preparation needed before you get on the plane, to ensure your holiday plans go smoothly. Packing your suitcase is one of those things that we tend to leave until the last minute, which means a lot of things can get forgotten. To make things easier, we have put together a list of the seven things you need to remember when packing.

1. Currency

You’re not going to get very far in a foreign country without having their currency to hand. A Bureau De Change at the airport can charge high commission rates because they know it’s your last option to get changed up before leaving, so try and get your currency sorted beforehand.

2. Insurance Documents

If you’ve made the effort to arrange travel insurance before you go abroad, then don’t forget to take all of the information you need. In most cases, you’ll be given an insurance certificate, which proves you’re insured, a handbook that tells you what is covered, and the numbers you need to call if you need to make a claim. Make sure you have a hard copy in case you cannot access your e-mail whilst away.

3. Tickets or Booking Information

One of the most important things to remember are your tickets for inbound and outbound travel. If you have been sent a digital copy then ensure you have one or two versions printed off, just in case the worst should happen. Put them all in a document folder along with your insurance documents and any other paperwork you may need.

4. Passport

You’re certainly not getting anywhere without this, so don’t forget to bring it with you! It’s best to put your passport somewhere that is easy to get to, such as hand luggage. Make sure you check the expiry date on your passport too, just in case. If your passport is due to expire then use for quick renewal options.

5. Medicines

If you take prescription medicine, are allergic to anything, or prone to headaches, then make sure you take your medicines with you. You don’t want any kind of medication withdrawal or ailments to put a dampener on your holiday. There are some medicines which are restricted when going abroad, so make sure you check before getting stopped by customs.

6. Toiletries

We all want some of our home comforts with us when we travel, and our toiletries are a great example of this. Sometimes hotels provide lovely little samples we can use, but nothing beats your own bubble bath or shampoo. Remember, you can only carry travel sized toiletries in your luggage so invest in some little bottles for your holiday.

7. Chargers

Last up, one of the things that we always seem to forget. Buying a charger abroad can prove costly, especially if you need something specific for a laptop, phone or tablet. Don’t forget to bring some plug adapters that are suitable for the country you are visiting, so you can plug in and go.

Of course, there are other things you need to pack as well; clothes, swimwear, shoes, maybe even a hair dryer. However, these are the items that are most forgotten and quite possibly the most important! Have you ever forgotten to pack one of these vital items?
