Conventional holidays are okay, but there are not for everyone. Here at The Adventure Monkey, we are less of a sit on the beach and sunbathe type and more of a go and get ‘em type. We love the hustle and bustle of exploring new environments and new terrains, which is why we have a few tips for your next adventure holiday. There is no better feeling than the adrenaline rush of an extreme vacation, but it isn’t a decision you can take lightly. It’s a good job we’ve got you covered then, isn’t it?!
Are You Sure?
Okay, we might love an adventure, but it is not for everyone. You will be amazed at how many people go on this type of holiday because of peer pressure. If you are one of those conventional holiday types, there is nothing wrong with sitting on the beach with a cocktail in hand. Don’t let what other people like to do affect what your holiday. After all, you only get a couple of weeks a year.
What Type Of Holiday?
Congratulations, you are one of us! We knew you were; we just had to say all that stuff about conventional holidays to make some people feel better. Now you have to make a decision. That decision is the type of adventure holiday to choose. They come in a lot of different shapes and sizes and different environments. For example, you can go rock climbing in the mountains or ski on the slopes. Both are full of adrenaline and excitement, but they take place in two extreme conditions. So, what kind of adrenaline junkie are you?
Where Do You Start?
When you have made your final decision, you need to book your holiday. But, you can’t do that without a few options. Most travel agents don’t advertise adventure holidays in their windows, so you need a couple of alternative sources. The Internet is the best option, but again it depends on where you want to travel. If it is a winter holiday you are looking for, websites like www.thewhitecircle.com specialise in cold weather activities. But, if you want something hotter and more summery, Wild Frontiers might be a good place to start.
How can you mess up packing? Pretty easily when you go on an adventure! You need to remember that it is not like going on a normal holiday. You cannot turn up and buy a Gore-Tex jacket like you would a pair of shorts. Well, you can, but it will cost you a fortune. If you pack properly, you won’t have to fork out extra cash on clothes and equipment that can save your life in some cases. Think about where you are going and what you are doing, and then plan accordingly.
… But Pack Light
I know it is a hard line to tow. Getting the balance between packing properly and packing light is incredibly important, though. On an adventure holiday, you will more than likely take your luggage with you everywhere. You could climb a mountain and abseil back down with your bag. As a result, you don’t want a twenty-kilo bag strapped to your back.
